Bovine Weather Model: Localized Weather Prediction
Do cows lie down when it's about to rain? Object detection on public livestream cameras turns animal behaviour into a localized rain forecast — and a critique of AI in capital markets.
Is it true that cows lie down when it's about to rain?
The model takes the old observation literally. It analyses public YouTube livestreams in real time, tracks herd behaviour with object detection, and turns the share of animals lying down into a localized probability of rain — folk knowledge fed through contemporary AI training practice.
The project is also a critique of AI in capital markets. It inverts the usual logic of prediction, moving it from human signals to non-human ones. In a companion version, every animal detected on wildlife livecams is labelled an "investor".
